Clear Aligners — Is Invisalign Right for You?

Invisalign uses a series of custom-made clear aligners to gradually move teeth toward a planned position. The aligners are removable and made from smooth plastic — there are no metal brackets or wires.

Whether Invisalign is appropriate depends on an assessment of your teeth, bite, gum health, and what you are hoping to achieve. Dr. Wasim Qureshi offers Invisalign consultations at our Ashburn office and will explain whether clear aligner treatment is a suitable option for your situation. Please contact our office for consultation fees and details about any credit toward treatment.

Invisalign is designed for mild to moderate alignment concerns. Cases involving more complex bite issues may require a different approach, which Dr. Qureshi will discuss with you during your evaluation.

Practical Advantages of Clear Aligners

Removable

Aligners are taken out to eat, drink anything other than water, brush, and floss — no food restrictions and no special cleaning tools required.

Low profile

Clear aligners are less visible than metal brackets and wires, which many patients prefer for professional or social reasons.

Smooth material

The plastic aligner trays have no sharp edges, which reduces the kind of soft-tissue irritation sometimes associated with traditional braces.

Planned treatment sequence

Your full aligner series is mapped out before treatment begins, so you and Dr. Qureshi can review the planned tooth movement in advance.

Periodic monitoring

Progress check-ins allow Dr. Qureshi to confirm treatment is tracking as planned and make adjustments if needed.

Mild to moderate cases

Invisalign can address crowding, spacing, and certain bite issues in appropriate cases. Suitability is determined during your consultation.

The Invisalign Treatment Sequence

Treatment involves several stages. The timeline and number of aligners vary depending on the complexity of your case and how consistently the aligners are worn.

01

Invisalign consultation

Dr. Qureshi evaluates your teeth, bite, and gum health, and discusses your goals. This appointment determines whether Invisalign is appropriate for your situation or whether a different approach would be better suited. Please contact our office for consultation fees and details about any credit toward treatment.

02

iTero scan and treatment planning

If Invisalign is recommended, we take a digital scan of your teeth using an iTero intraoral scanner — no impressions needed. The scan is used to map your tooth positions and plan the full aligner sequence. You will be able to review the planned movement before your aligners are made.

03

Aligner wear and monitoring

You wear each set of aligners according to the schedule in your treatment plan, then progress to the next set. Periodic check-ins with Dr. Qureshi confirm that your teeth are tracking as planned.

04

Retention

Once active treatment is complete, retainers are used to maintain the result. Retainer wear is an ongoing commitment — teeth can shift without them.

What Invisalign Treatment Involves

Clear aligner treatment requires consistent effort on the patient's part. Understanding the commitment before starting helps set realistic expectations.

Prescribed wear time

Aligners need to be worn for the number of hours specified in your treatment plan. Wearing them less than prescribed can slow progress or affect the outcome.

Aligner change schedule

The schedule for advancing to the next aligner set is determined by your individual treatment plan. Follow the schedule Dr. Qureshi prescribes rather than a fixed interval.

Cleaning aligners and teeth

Aligners should be cleaned regularly and teeth brushed before reinserting them. Food and drink (other than water) should be consumed with aligners removed.

Monitoring appointments

Attending scheduled check-ins is important. These visits allow Dr. Qureshi to confirm progress and address any issues before they affect the outcome.

Retainers after treatment

Retainer wear after active treatment is a long-term commitment. Without retainers, teeth are likely to shift over time.
